StarCraft 2, keeping our fingers crossed for 2009

More than ten years have passed since the Blizzard‘s release of StarCraft. StarCraft is a Real time strategy game with Sci-Fi theme. Many people consider it as the best RTS game even today. Blizzard really hit the nail on its head with StarCraft, it is the fourth best-selling game on PC right behind World of Warcraft on third place and The Sims 1 and 2 in front.

Three completely different races with completely different units where every unit is unique resulted in a lot of different tactics and careful micro management. Playing StarCraft is an art of knowing each unit and knowing when to use them. With careful tactics and right units you can stop your opponent when he tries to perform a rush-attack with only a handful of units.

Therefore it is not surprising that StarCraft 2 is one of the most expected games in the history of gaming. I would say that it comes close to Duke Nukem Fornever. With a minor but important difference. Starcraft 2 is not such vaporware. In a recent interview at DreamHack in Stockholm with lead designer and lead producer of the game we were told that Blizzard will try to release the game in 2009, but they won’t release if it isn’t ready.

In a way, they have a deadline but it is kind of moot.

Edit: Here’s a link to the battle report of an actual game play.

Startrek Online, a replacement for EVE Online?

Star Trek Online

Startrek Online is an upcoming MMORPG which will take place in Startrek universe. It was first announced quite a while ago, in 2004. Meanwhile Perpetual Entertainment that was developing the game went bankrupt in 2008. Cryptic Studios picked it up and Atari put the game in their financial report expecting a release date by March 31, 2010.

In the game you will become a spaceship captain with few predefined races, Human, Klingon, Vulcan, Orion and Gorn. They also promised a race editor where you can create your own race. We will see many different ships that are flyable and all sorts of activities from space combat to various away missions on distant planets, everything from PvP to PvE.

Screen shots do look promising, so we are wondering if  Star Trek Online can become something that will measure up to Eve Online?

Games

Dear Lord! Not another category. Yes that is exactly what this will become. The category will feature reviews of games for geeks, homosexuals, lesbians, heterosexuals, transsexuals, metrosexuals, gang members, Nazis, punkers, rockers, caucasoids, congoids, capoids, mongoloids and australoids. We will cover everything from computer games to board games, from girl-girl games to boy-girl games, from games you can play solo to multiplayer games.

Can you imagine that and more? Personally I should be able to review, gather facts and tell you something interesting about a game every second Sunday. We will see how it will go.
