Experimenting with Social Networks

Sherlock Holmes (r) and Dr. Watson. From the S...

Every now and then some random person starts following me on Twitter and every now and then some random person adds me to their friends list on Facebook.

Watson, a clue!”

I’ll start with an experiment. I will be adding one hundred people on my friends list on Facebook and I’ll follow ome hundred different people on Twitter. What’s the situation right now? Being a moderate user of both services this is what I have:

Facebook: 165 Friends, Twitter: 45 Following, 84 Followers

People I pick will be pseudo-random. I will check if they are active and they don’t appear as a spam bot on Twitter. On Facebook I’ll start with friends of my friends and people from various groups and invitations to all sorts of events. I will try to keep people as different as possible adding males and females of all ages and interest groups. I’ll be posting follow-ups on twitter #twmkd so you can keep track of the progress.

It starts now!

The story of Three Wise Men

You all know the story of three wise men ? For those that missed on their biblical study classes lets try to redefine it.

Wikipedia calls the Biblical Magi. The Three Kings or Kings From the East, mentioned in the Bible, so something about their existance must be true. Since I am not at quarrel with the good book lets say that they existed.  Quote from the Bible, more accurate Mathew 2:1-12

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’ Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him. After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.”

Now the story does not tell us the number of the kings, but since three gifts were received it is assumed that there were at least Three Kings.

But, this post has nothing to do with this story. The story came into post by pure accident. Actually the fault lies in Google‘s search engine matrix. Well let’s get back to our three wise men.
