It took some time, but the next batch of Linux Tips is ready. If you are following me on Twitter then you have already received all the tips. Now they are here again with some explanation just like previous time. All the feedback is appreciated and corrections are gladly accepted. ;) Obligatory ‘your computer might blow up’ disclaimer follows: All these commands were tested on my computer with my K/Ubuntu Linux installation1. Before you actually use any of the commands that are published here, make sure you test them on your computer with your test files, not your actual data. I don’t want to be responsible for any tears and hair being pulled out.

At BarCampLjubljana sessions were 20 minute talks with 10 more minutes for Q&A.

Here’s how I got my BarCamp cherry-popped with second BarCamp in Slovenia. Yes, it was a first time for me. *blushes*

Linux and Open Source community achieved much more than Microsoft

I feel that it is time for another article about zealotry and pouring some more oil onto an ongoing holy flame war. Wouldn’t you agree?

In my heart I don’t see Microsoft as an arch nemesis, I don’t feel that Linux is Spiderman and Windows Dr. Octopus or King Pin, but I do like occasional holy wars, bashing and fighting against who is what to who. It is fun and entertaining. That is why I will boldly make a claim:

Linux and Open Source communities have done much more than Microsoft or any other giant dinosaur from the computer industry ever did.

Of course I will back my claim with facts and other information.

Hiding your secrets – Encrypting your hard drive

Sometimes protecting your computer with BIOS passwords and login passwords just doesn’t cut it. Your computer being stolen is one of such examples. When someone has physical access to your computer it is more or less cakewalk for them to access your data. They can simply disconnect your hard drive, put it in another computer and access all the data on it.

How to prevent this? Read on.
