New version of Kazam Screencaster was just released. Please note that this an unstable release and you can expect trouble. You can report bugs to Launchpad and you can personally unleash your wrath in #kazam on irc.freenode.net. :)

- An option to disable countdown window (LP:#934586).
- Start/Stop options for indicator menu (LP:#934841).
- More resizing handles on region selection window (LP:#946403).
Few other additional features:
- Added parameter –nosound to disable Pulse Audio and sound detection.

- … perhaps there are more.
You can get Kazam at the usual location on Launchpad.

Where is the documentation? What are the shortcuts for pause, start, stop? Or aren’t there any shortcuts?
Oh, I want to be notified if you answer. :-)
Because this support was added experimentally and additional things are required, I didn’t write any documentation for it. At least not yet.
Keys are:
SUPER-CTRL-R for recording
SUPER-CTRL-F for finish
SUPER-CTRL-H for hiding/showing kazam main window
SUPER-CTRL-Q for quitting the app
And shortcuts were added just recently. Not in the 1.3.0 version, but later, so you’ll have to install it from the unstable source tree.
ive been having a few issues with this version…
whenever saving it saves incorrectly and the file is about 20 kb, also recording of desktop sound doesnt work, and the open in openshot/save menu doesnt appear until the program being recorded is closed. and it seems some of the nice youtube features have been removed.
hmmm this is odd… when typing kazam -v in terminal it says im on version 1.0.6
Please, please, *please*, if you’re going to let us record 2 separate audio streams (which is perfect for interviews), then let us have them go to separate tracks. Honestly this would even be a better default, as you can always mix separate tracks together, but there’s no way to separate them when they’re mixed together as they are now.
In other words, send audio source 1 to the left track of a stereo file, and audio 2 to the right track (or vice versa)
You should use Audacity for interviews. And record the desktop (only video, no sound) with kazam. Then mix it with an arbitrary video editing tool (kino, kdenlive, OpenShot, Avidemux).
Oops. Did a reply as a new comment. Please see below.
As far as I can see Audacity isn’t capable of recording audio from two different pulseaudio streams at once.
If I’m wrong, by all means let me know!
Also, syncing up 3 streams (video, speaker audio, interviewer audio) accurately can get downright nasty, compared to just “choose 2 audio channels, a region of the screen, hit record and get it all, synced in one video.”
Is there really any advantage to having different audio streams (especially mono ones) all mixed together so they can’t be separated? Seems odd to have two mono streams, going to a format that holds two mono streams, but to have each one copied to both channels and mixed together with the other audio stream, also copied to both channels…
