Windows 7 driver update for AuthenTec AES2810 fingerprint scanner on HP notebooks
In my previous post I was describing a method how to enable and use the AuthenTec ASE2810 fingerprint scanner beta Windows 7 driver. There was some positive feedback and the method worked on some HP notebook devices. For some with different versions of fingerprint scanner the method did not work. Hopefully times have changed for all of us.
On the October 23, 2009 AuthenTec released information about update to Windows 7 driver infrastructure. About 2 weeks ago I noticed an optional update in Windows 7 update section. It read AuthenTec Inc. driver update for AuthenTec Inc. AES2810. I was pleased to finally get the final version of the driver.
Immediately checked it and started the 32Mb download procedure. Smooth download, smooth install. Went to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Biometric Devices and the AES2810 was still available. I decided for clean setup so I removed my existing fingerprint data by clicking and confirming the Remove your fingerprint data dialog. Then I clicked on Manage your fingerprint data and waited for my password dialog. None appeared. Frustrated and angry about the stupid update I started to minimize the windows and was presently surprised by the TrueSuite login screen1. Typed and retyped in password of my account and voila I was ready to enroll my fingers.

TrueSuite Application has changed a bit. Must say that it is simple and intuitive to use2. You have 2 options. Enroll finger by selecting a finger to enroll and repeating finger swipe 3 times and delete an enrolled finger. Additional nifty feature is available when you enroll a finger. When TrueSuite application is run through manage your fingerprint data call you are presented by the password login screen. But now you can use your enrolled finger to authenticate your self. No more password typing.
I repeated the update on both HP notebooks that I own. So I can confirm that the driver works for HP EliteBook 8530p and HP Compaq 2230s. Bravo AuthenTec. Now if you could only release data which would help to create or create a Linux driver then I would be in heaven.

got an HP Compaq 6510b…was able to install driver and true suite…everything was running smoothly until i get to the “swipe finger” part…nothing happened beyond that point…help please…
:( From the information your actual HW is: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HP_Compaq_6510b AES2501. It looks like AuthenTec missed something with new TreuSuite 2.0. What a surprise, ‘ey mate?!?
You could try one of the following updates from HP.
sp39199:

sp35583:

But I can’t guarantee it will succeed. Since I don’t own 6510b. My best guess would be try the sp39199. It is the latest update for your notebook.
fingerprint activation
I found the Windows 7 driver a huge step back from what I had in Vista. On Vista it would missread fingerprints about 1 times out of 10, not so bad. With 7 it is often simply impossible to login and works 1 times out of 10.
Most of the time it fails when returning from the hibernate mode. After a full reboot it works much better.
The worst thing that on Vista it would intercept many login operations such as IE logins, Remote desktop login, etc. On Windows 7 however the finger print reader can only be used to login to Windows; read pretty much useless.
I am running AuthenTec AES2810 driver version 8.0.200.42 on HP EliteBook 8530 p with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. Fingerprint enrollment is via HP Protect Tools Security Manager 4.10.17.0001 . Two issues I have. 1.: enrolling is very cumbersome. When scanning the 3rd take for the same finger it often responds with an error and I need to start over the scanning procedure. Getting it to accept four scans of the same finger is almost not possible. 2.: fingerprint authentication is only used for Windows login. It does not intercept any security dialogs while logged in.
The operating system’s Windows Update does not offer me the driver for download as it offered you. When I click driver update for AuthenTec Inc. AES2810 at the Device Manager it says I am current. AuthenTec has removed the Windows 7 beta link you posted and does not seem to offer any download directly from their site. Also the HP Support Assistant does not find updates for me. I tried it with DriverMax. They made me installing version 8.6.0.13 of the AES2810 driver, but then the fingerprint authentication didn’t work anymore, no icon in the upper right corner of the Windows login screen inviting for a scan. And the enrollment application window just flickered when I tried recording a fingerprint.
Questions: How to actively obtain a matching driver? What is your driver version and are you on W7 32bit or 64bit? Do you use the W7 SP2 beta or the initial release of W7?
i have some trouble!!!!!!!
