Academy award nomination for best performance by an actor in a leading role and best performance by an actress in a supporting role slipped away from rough Mickey Rourke, who portrays Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson and slightly aged, but still sexy looking Marissa Tomei as sensual dancer Cassidy.
All I can say … shame. Because the movie is quite good. Drama describing a relationship between ‘The Ram’, his daughter Stephany played by Evan Rachel Wood, and wrestling. He is constantly hunted by choices he has made in his life, and Cassidy always has the cure for them. All is fine until one day, when he least expected falls down and ends in a hospital bed.
Movie was produced and directed by Darren Aronofsky whom we had the pleasure of meeting in the science fiction drama The Fountain. Movie is a constant flow of unknown feelings which tear The Ram apart. Constantly falling and trying to stand up until a supporting hand picks him up and helps him find his way.
It can easily be rated 9 of 10.
Bear in mind that this is a drama, a sport drama. Where people get hurt. Some blood, acted violence, 1 or 2 sex screens, drugs, harsh language, probably not suited for younger audience. Have a peek at the trailer if you have not seen it and remember “The only place I get hurt is out there.”.
Story is set in post nuclear future. It is the year 2018. Skynet, a sentient and self-aware artificial intelligence, nuked human race to save itself from possible destruction and it almost succeed. But humans are resilient. Resistance fighters pop up everywhere around the globe. People of Earth are united against a common enemy – machines. And they just started to mount resistance, which has a good chance of succeeding, if …
Movie was directed by Joseph McGinty Nichol better known as McG . It has all the elements of a good action flick and some tender moments, good sci-fi background with interesting CGI effects. Movie fits well in Terminator storyline.
Pure 6 of 10. Can’t give it much more than that.
Good movie to spend the night with friends if you don’t have anything better to do. What the movie lacks is a good cameo appearance of Governator, more story details, some more feelings and a foreseeable end of the saga which might happen in Terminator 5. Or will it? Anyway trailer just for you.
I really didn’t have anything to do this weekend so I figured that I can go and see a stupid comedy and compare the good old days of comedy with the current example of the “art”. Teen comedy is really not my movie genre, although I have seen some examples where I laughed my pants off. And since it promised 2 guys and 300 girls I thought that there could be some potential for good evening.
Movie was directed by Will Gluck?!? Story is simple. Two high school jocks Shawn Colfax, played by Nicholas D’Agosto and Nick Brady played By Eric Christian Olsen decide to ditch their football summer camp for cheer leaders summer camp. Now this should be funny, right?!? The plan was simple. Just bribe baby sister to convince her cheer team captain Carly played by Sarah Roemer and we are on board. Guys actually pull it off and they cheer away to the camp. Will they succeed and find their way ?
Well if you have not figured it out yet, the rest of the film is full of chliches with predictable story, emerging actors and director. Don’t expect too much only a light entertainment, some interesting jokes which are less than funny.
I give this movie 3 of 10.
Mainly because I am a guy and there were some interesting shoots in the unrated version of the movie, which are basically all the highlights I got from it. If you still want to see the movie, watch the trailer and well envision the rest.
It took a while but it finally arrived, the long avaited Caprica.
For all who might not know, Caprica is a spin-off from the reimagined Galactica TV series. Like its predecesor it was created by a long time Star Trek writer, producer, etc,… Ronald D. Moore and again he did an excelent job. The pilot was released on April 21st on a DVD and via digital download.
It looks very promising, a series that combines elements of a sci fi, soap or space operas and cyberpunk. In my own words I like to call it a “modern cyberpunk”, it is still far from Ghost in the Shell but is a lot closer to Blade Runner.
Since this is the decade of prequels we find ourself with yet another one. But what is so good about this one is the fact that you don’t have to be fan of the “original” Galactica series, you don’t have to even know that it exists or what it is.
I’d give it 4 out of 5, but that’s just because I knew (guessed) where they were going with the story in the first 30 minutes. For the complete review we will have to wait for the series release which will be in 2010.
I was one of the privileged Trekkies that were able to get tickets to the premiere of the new Star Trek movie called Star Trek XI or Star Trek Zero, since this happens to be the year of the prequels.
Story starts with a conflict between strange renegade Romulan faction and a Federation star ship, which is by some unusual coincidence captained by James T. Kirks fother and is destroyed. Kirk – wild as he always was – is brought up on Earth. He is portrayed by Chris Pine, and he can shake Wiliam Shatners hand. The story progresses slowly, but with enough action and drama that keeps even non-trekkies up and watching for next kick. Crew of Enterprise slowly gets together. Joung Vulcan Spock is portrayed by Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban stars as Kirks friend Bones, seductive Zoe Saldana portrais Uhura, John Cho samurai Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin comical Pavel Chekov. One of the last characters Scotty is portrayed by Simon Peg. Movie was directed by J. J. Abrams and in my opinion he did the franchise a favour. With a single expert director move he made it possible to reboot all of the series once again.
Now I could tell you much more regarding the story, but you should really go to the movies and see it.
I will rate this movie 9 out of 10.
The story is believable, not too fast, and not too slow. Character are well portrayed and perfect replacement for now older players from series. Movie has action, drama, intrigue. The story is complete without a need for another movie, but still open enough for the writers to make one. Now the effects … ;) well we have advanced from the Enterprise series. They are superb. What else … Oh yes … Nokia will rule the world ;)
So go to the movies and check it out by your self. If you are not convinced by this review than maybe check the trailer and maybe it will convince you.
